Kildare manager Jason Ryan was 'delighted' by his side's performance against Down.

The Lilywhites banished the Leinster semi-final defeat to Meath to the back of their minds as they manoeuvred their way past a tricky opening qualifier round tie against Down at Pairc Esler last weekend.

The Leinster side impressed throughout, kicking some outstanding scores during the match and Ryan stressed to the Leinster Leader that the win was a massive lift for the side.

"I thought Kildare were excellent," said Ryan. "I thought the level of intensity that they brought to the game was far superior to what they brought to the last game, so I am delighted with it. It's a good boost for the team."

Kildare now progress to the next round of the qualifiers where they will take on Clare in Cusack Park on Saturday evening.
