Kildare manager Joe Quaid has revealed that he will not be using permit players in 2018.

Last year, the Limerick native had no option but to include a number of 'outsiders' in his squad due to player unavailability within the county.

However, he stressed to the Leinster Express that will not be the case this year as he focuses on home grown talent. Kildare take on Kilkenny in the Walsh Cup on Sunday and Quaid has stated that all players will be 'home grown'.

"I've always said that I wasn't a fan of the permit players but when you had lads from Kildare, for one reason or another, weren't willing to hurl for the county, we had to do it last year," claimed Quaid.

"And it reaped benefits in that we are still in Division 2A and that has a lot to do with permit players as well. We are still in the Christy Ring Cup; if we didn't have those lads last year then conceivably we could have ended up in 2B and the Rackard Cup, so it did serve its purpose.

"There are lads that have played before coming back in, and with those new young lads on board, it's a good blend. It is going to take a bit of time to get it right."
