Kerry Ladies club notes

July 28, 2015

Southern Gaels and Laune Rangers faced off again in the space of a week, as they meet in the quarter final of the Randles Bros Nissan Dealers Senior Championship. In the encounter a week earlier the final of the Randles Bros Nissan Dealers Club Championship, Southern Gaels dominated against a weakened Laune Rangers who were missing key players however as anticipated it was a much different Rangers side that took to the field on Saturday.  Laune Rangers had  Edel Murphy, Bernie Breen and Anne-Marie O'Donoghue back in their ranks; winning the toss and playing with a strong breeze downfield they notched up 5 points before a free from Deirdre Corridan put Southern Gaels on their way. Corridan had a great game for the home team, winning every ball that came her way and eventually scoring 7pts (4f). With Bernie Breen at mid-field, Patrice Dennehy  and Sarah Houlihan had a good supply of ball. Laune Rangers scored 7pts in the first half and only some very hard work by the home team's backs kept the goals from coming.  Southern Gaels were starting to coming into their own form with a goal from Saidbh Fitzgerald and 3 points from Deirdre. Corridan seeing them only a point adrift at half time. A clash of heads left the visitors without county star  Edel Murphy for the second half and with the wind at their backs Southern Gaels were winning Rangers kick-outs and pressing on. Rangers had 2 wides from frees but they never gave up and the South Kerry sides keeper Elaine O'Sullivan was forced to come off her line to save from Sarah Houlihan and also Bernie Breen. A second goal from Saidbh Fitzgerald put Southern Gaels out of reach and they ran out eventual winners on a full time score  2-14 to 12 pts. They now play Castleisland Desmonds in the semi final, with date being decided after Kerry's involvement in the All Ireland. In the other semi final Spa/Rathmore will face Inbhear Sceine Gaels, exciting times ahead in the Randles Bros Nissan Dealers Championship.

Best of luck to our U16 team who face Galway in the All Ireland Final on Wednesday. They have faced  tough path to the final defeating Cork & Waterford in earlier preliminary games & Cork again in the Munster Final. They then had a tricky game against Dublin after a 5 week layoff in the All Ireland semi final. They had to survive a nervy second half after Dublin came fighting back. Many of the team are members of the last years All Ireland winning U14 team so despite their young years have plenty of experience. Team manager Graham Shine, along with selectors Joanne & Julie Brosnan have the team will drilled & we are hopeful of a big performance & a victory. Games takes place 7pm in Bruff, Co.Limerick. Team will line out as follows: 1 Laura Teahan ( Kilcummin), 2 Kate Maher (Kilcummin), 3 Fay O'Donoghue (C) (Fossa), 4 Ciara O Brien (Laune Rangers), 5 Anna O'Reilly (Fossa), 6 Laoise Coughlan (Rathmore ),  7 Tara Breen  (Laune Rangers ), 8 Emma Dineen (Glenflesk), 9 Leah Henry (Listowel Emmets) 10 Ciara Murphy(Miltown/Listry), 11 Erica McGlynn(Fossa), 12 Elizabeth Mohan(Legion), 13 Fiadhna Tangney (Legion), 14 Hannah O'Donoghue (Fossa), 15 Aoife O'Callaghan(Rathmore)
