O'Connor hails Kingdom's tenacity

Jack O'Connor was delighted with the character his Kerry team showed in their Munster MFC semi-final extra-time victory over Cork on Wednesday night.

The reigning All-Ireland champions can now look forward to a provincial final showdown with Tipperary after the Leaving Cert and their manager enthused in the Irish Examiner: "We dug that out unbelievably. A lot of people around the county would have said we didn't have the same talent as last year. That was an exceptional team last year, but we've known from the start of the year that this is a tenacious team. Nothing won that but character.

"There were fellas coming off with cramp, there were fellas coming off that we had to put back on. Gavin White caught a kick-out there and I don't know how in the name of God he caught it. That led to the winning point. Mark O'Connor made an unbelievable block to stop them getting the winning point.

"The one thing you want your lads doing is battling, leaving it all out there. That is what we did. Most teams would have thrown in the towel when Cork got the goal in the second period of extra-time, our lads went back up the field against a gale. We got it to the right man, Michael Foley. He was fresh. He did the business."
