Kerry struggled to make an impact in last year's Football League, lucky in the end to preserve their Division 1 status, so it was no surprise to hear Paul Geaney say they want to improve on that showing.

The All-Ireland champions recently returned from their team holiday in South Africa and all their focus is now on their Division 1 campaign which starts with a home fixture against Mayo this Sunday.

Speaking at the launch of the 2015 Allianz Football Leagues in Croke Park today, Geaney revealed: "We had a good break away, we had a good winter as well but it was important to get back training and it has been going well so far.

"I suppose it has been hard in some ways but I think fellas were just mad to get back on the road again and get back training. We're kind of easing into it even though we hit the ground running with the training.

"We're just looking forward to getting the ball rolling this weekend. Hopefully we can improve on our Allianz League form in comparison to last year. It was poor, we were lucky to stay up so hopefully we can maybe push towards a semi-final or win it this year."

Geaney is excited about the return of Tommy Walsh to the green and gold jersey.

"He's just getting back into it. It's going to take as small while for him to get used to the round ball again. He's getting there and hopefully he'll have a big part to play in the year ahead.

"He played a club game at the weekend so hopefully he'll play in some of the early games in the League if not the first game."
