First target achieved for minors

July 31, 2014
Kerry minor manager Jack O'Connor admits that their goal at the start of the year was to be still involved in the championship by August.

That goal has been achieved, but now the former senior manager wants more as they prepare for the All-Ireland SFC quarterfinal against Kildare on Bank Holiday Monday.

Semple Stadium Thurles is the venue for this clash and O'Connor feels that his squad have grown as a group since they first got together.

"The goal at the start of the year was to get the boys playing into August," O'Connor told the Kerryman.

"We felt if the group stayed together for that length of time the boys would improve both collectively and individually and so far the lads have enjoyed it and they are responding to everything we ask from them.

"The first target was to win the Munster competition, we won that, the next target is the ultimate prize, and we will try to win that. We are preparing well for the Clare game and only that game. You can only jump one hurdle at a time and you could well fall if you have your eye on further hurdles down the line. It's just Kildare on Monday and that's it."
