Colm O'Rourke believes the Cork footballers let their supporters and county down with what he described as a 'spineless' performance against Kerry.

The pre-match favourites crashed to a 0-12 to 0-24 defeat to their old rivals in the last ever Munster SFC final to be played at Pairc Ui Chaoimh before it undergoes redevelopment, and O'Rourke didn't mince his words when speaking on RTE afterwards.

"I would stress that that (spineless) is the correct word for it because in this historic stadium and it being knocked down, you would think that the Cork players would come out with passion and with great energy in their blood to make sure they signed off on a very high note," the Meath legend said.

"Instead of that, they did exactly the opposite. If I was a Cork player or supporter, I'd be going away and hiding for a week."

By contrast, Kerry were on fire and O'Rourke believes they have put themselves in the All-Ireland reckoning after breezing to their 76th Munster title.

"I think Kerry have announced themselves as serious contenders so if you've backed Dublin for the All-Ireland, there's no need to form an orderly queue at the payout window in the bookies just yet," he smiled.
