O'Connor wary of minor burn-out

Kerry minor manager Jack O'Connor admits to having concerns over the under-18 age group and player burn out.

O'Connor has been forced to prepare for their Munster MFC opener against Clare next Wednesday without his Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne contingent as they prepare for the Hogan Cup final on Saturday.

Those players will return to the squad, but it will be just two days before the clash with Clare and he admits that preparations have not been ideal.

However, the former Kerry senior manager is more concerned with the demand for the players at this level; a situation he feels must be addressed.

"The minor age group is a real difficult one, lads are pulled each way with the clubs, schools, inter-county, divisional sides and more importantly their education," O'Connor states in the Kerryman.

"I think there is a real need to look at a director of football for the county at this level to make sure we stop early burn out. We have that responsibility to take as rest is just as important for these players. We all want the best for them but maybe a more coordinated approach could be looked at in the future."
