Mulvihill, Tim

November 20, 2008
The death has occurred of Tim (Captain) Mulvihill of Glouria, Lisselton, following a short illness. One of five children of the late Michael and Catherine Mulvihill, Tim passed away on November 6th, aged 67. He grew up on the family farm Coolaclarig, Listowel and then moved to Glouria when his sister, Joan and Martin Robert Scanlon got married. He lived in Glouria for the last 36 years. Tim had a great sense of humour and was always in good form, a trait that endeared him to everybody. Tim was affectionately known by many as the 'Captain' and was an avid GAA fan. He was a loyal supporter of his local club, Clounmacon, and later, Ballydonoghue, where he watched his nephews, Martin and Michael play on the various teams. He was a familiar face at all North Kerry matches and also at county games. If, for any reason, he was unable to attend a game, he would listen to it on the radio. He was a great fan of the wireless, as he called it. He could always be depended upon to give a blow by blow account of results, fixtures and current affairs! Tim was a well-liked figure in the community and was a common sight cycling the roads of North Kerry. In latter years he was always certain of a drive from Lisselton Cross. Throughout his life, Tim turned his hand to many different tasks. He worked on the family farm, in the pubs in Ballybunion and he won the prestigious Bard of Ballydonoghue competition in 1977. Tim suffered a stroke eighteen months ago. His strong spirit continued to shine through though. He adapted well to his situation with his happy go lucky attitude to life. Despite inclement weather, huge crowds came to pay their respects to Tim. Ballydonoghue and Clounmacon GAA clubs provided the guard of honour. Tim is survived by his sister Madge (London), his brothers, Dan and John, his brother-in-law, Martin Robert, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends and neighbours.
