DJ Carey says he can't understand why Austin Gleeson "went near Luke Meade's helmet".

The 2016 Hurler of the Year's actions have placed him in danger of missing Waterford's All-Ireland SHC final clash with Galway on September 3rd. After witnessing the controversial 18th-minute incident from Sunday's semi-final win over Cork, Kilkenny legend Carey can't understand what the Mount Sion clubman was thinking:

"Personally, I feel a straight red card for interfering with an opponent's helmet is far too harsh but there's been any amount of coverage of it of late and Waterford players should be more acutely aware than anyone about it, with two of them serving suspensions this summer for it already," he writes in The Irish Daily Mirror.

"Gleeson looked as though he knew exactly what he was doing and there's every chance he'll be hearing from the CCCC.

"While I've huge sympathy for him if he misses the final, it's difficult to comprehend why he went near Luke Meade's helmet, particularly in light of the [Tadhg] de Burca fall-out."
