The move to pull Galway out of the Leinster SHC unless their minor and U-21 teams are also included in that province has gained huge momentum after clubs in the county united last night (MON) to unanimously back a motion calling for that.

Over 250 delegates from the 80 clubs in the county gave their full backing to a motion from the Liam Mellows club calling for all of the county's teams to play in the same provincial championship.

Part of the motion also called for Galway to look for inclusion in the Munster championship from 2018, which will undoubtedly crank up the pressure on Leinster to allow all Galway teams into their provincial championship.

Outgoing Galway chairman Noel Treacy said the unanimous backing from all the clubs sent out a clear message.

"We now have a mandate that all of Galway is fully behind the motion and we can no negotiate at the highest levels of the association and hopefully commonsense will prevail and equity for all Galway teams in hurling in the short term," he said.

There was a 96% turnout from delegates, with a tight vote for county chairman also impacting on the attendance. Pat Kearney was voted chairman, defeating Kevin Clancy by a single vote by 127 votes to 126.
