Colm Collins is calling for Ballyea's All-Ireland club SHC semi-final against St. Thomas' next February to be brought forward by a week to avoid a clash with Clare's opening game in the 2017 Allianz Football League against Derry.

Both games are scheduled for the weekend of February 4/5, which would pose a dilemma for dual players Gary Brennan, Pearse Lillis and Damien Burke.

"Hopefully, there will be a bit of common sense shown and they don't put the two fixtures down on top of each other," the Clare football manager said in the Clare Champion.

"It (Ballyea's success) is great for the lads though and it's a fantastic achievement. Hopefully, common sense will prevail, but that isn't always that common in the GAA. I think they are fixed for the Saturday or Sunday on the weekend of February 4 and 5, to the best of my knowledge.

"You'd be hoping that the club fixture could be played a week earlier. But these are the kind of things you come up against and you have to get on with it. I'm quite sure that whatever team we'll have going to Derry will be very competitive."
