Jamesie O'Connor reckons Clare's game plan must change next season regardless of whether or not current manager Davy Fitzgerald remains at the helm.

The Banner County exited the All-Ireland SHC for the second consecutive summer last weekend, leaving question marks over Fitzgerald's future with the team, and two-time All-Ireland winner O'Connor says their style of hurling must change from the current system they have in place.

"Whether he (Fitzgerald) stays or goes, he has one year left on his contract and I think he may decide to stay on," O'Connor told RTE Sport.

"The game plan has to change because we haven't been successful against the stronger teams.

"I don't think we are getting the best use out of our attacking talent, so I think we really need to look at the style of play and the way we're playing the game.

"Regardless of whether Davy stays or goes, that has to change."

One player O'Connor feels has suffered from the current system is 2013 All-Ireland hero Shane O'Donnell.

"Shane O'Donnell got 3-3 in the All-Ireland final in 2013, lit it up, but we haven't seen the best of him since and I think a lot of that is to do with the style we're playing," he added.
