Cork legend's brother stabbed by burglar

A brother of Cork GAA icon Ray Cummins was stabbed after he confronted a man who broke into his home in Douglas yesterday.

Well-known businessman and a retired teacher Kevin Cummins (68) is recovering in his hospital following the brutal attack in his home in the Cork suburb. He hails from one of Cork's best-known GAA families, with his brother Ray a dual star who was named on the GAA Hurling Team of the Decade, while another brother, Brendan, is also a former All-Ireland winner with the Rebels.

The Cummins' own a number of sports retail outlets throughout Cork.

Kevin returned home to the Cross Douglas Road yesterday at 4.30pm and found the burglar inside his house. After confronting the intruder, he received a head injury and was stabbed in the stomach.

The victim, whose injuries are said to be non-life threatening, was taken to Cork University Hospital, while the burglar made off with camera equipment and a computer.

Gardai are using CCTV footage to try to identify the attacker.
