Kilkenny captain Eddie O'Connopr celebrates with the Liam McCarthy Cup back in 1993
Former Kilkenny All-Ireland winning captain Eddie O'Connor is among the nominees for the vacant Waterford hurling manager's post.

The Glenmore native has been nominated along with former Waterford ladies football boss and current De La Salle supremo Michael Ryan, ex-Carlow and Mount Sion manager Jim Greene and outgoing manager Davy Fitzgerald, who is believed to be interested in seeking another term at the helm.

A special committee comprising county board chairman Tom Cunningham, vice-chairman John O'Leary, secretary Timmy O'Keeffe and treasurer Michael Hogan will begin interviewing all four candidates within a week.

O'Keeffe explained: "Our expectation is that we will be in a position to make a recommendation to the county board meeting on October 11 when the delegates will then make the final decision."

O'Connor, who skippered Kilkenny to an All-Ireland final victory over Galway in 1993, is familiar with the Waterford scene, having coached senior clubs De La Salle and Ballyduff Lower in the recent past.
