Leinster Colleges SHC 'A': Wins for Kieran's and Kilkenny CBS

February 07, 2010
Kilkenny schools St. Kieran's College and Kilkenny CBS qualified for the Leinster Colleges SHC 'A' semi-finals with victories over Good Counsel, New Ross and Westmeath Schools yesterday.

A near flawless first half display, in which they shot 3-11 without recording a single wide, saw multiple Croke Cup winners St. Kieran's dethrone reigning provincial champions Good Counsel at the Eire Og grounds in Carlow on a 3-18 to 1-8 scoreline.

Corner forward Thomas O'Hanrahan pounced for goals in the 13th and 16th minutes to put St. Kieran's firmly in the driving seat and although David Crowdle replied with a goal for the Wexford school in the 20th minute, the impressive Padraig Walsh sent a 45-metre free to the net in the 26th minute to give the Kilkenny side a 3-13 to 1-3 lead at the break.

The outcome was never in any doubt after that with all but five points of St. Kieran's tally coming from play.

Kilkenny CBS completed a good day for the Cats when they hammered Westmeath Schools in their quarter-final joust at Ratheniska, Co. Laois.
