48 weeks for 'Mullagh Three'

February 03, 2010
Three hurlers from the Mullagh club in Galway have been hammered with 48-week bans by the CCCC.

The three players were initially hit with 48-week bans by the Galway CCC for allegedly assaulting referee Christy Helebert at the end of a county semi-final last October - something the players denied.

This was then reduced to twelve weeks on appeal to the Galway Hearings Committee.

But the referee found that reduction unacceptable and sent a file to the National Referees Administration. Having examined the case, Croke Park's Central Competitions Control Committee has decided that the original ban of almost one year should apply.

One of the players - Conor Dervan - was a member of the county senior squad. The others are Davey Glennon, who won an All-Ireland minor medal last September, and John Rafferty.
