West Limerick board intervenes in dispute

January 29, 2010
The Limerick hurling crisis has taken another twist with reports that the West board has contacted some of the county's exiled hurlers in a bid to resolve the current standoff.

It's understood that the divisional board has consulted with last year's captain Mark Foley, Wayne McNamara and Tom Condon, who are from the division, and will now discuss the matter at their next scheduled meeting on Monday night.

It is expected that they will then report back to the full county board in a bid to make progress towards ending the impasse which sees 24 players currently out in the cold.

Twelve of them were dropped by embattled manager Justin McCarthy last October, while 12 more quit in protest. The moves by the West Limerick board could well see the matter back on the agenda at the next county board meeting after it was brushed under the carpet earlier this month.

In the meantime, McCarthy and his selectors look set to go with an almost entirely new team when the National League commences on February 21 with a game against Galway.
