The late Michael Connell The death occurred peacefully of Mr Michael Connell, at his residence in Liscuib Ballymacward. Michael (82), or Mick as he was affectionately known, was throughout his life a hardworking and respected farmer. His remains reposed at his residence and later at the Franciscan Oratory Chapel, Mountbellew before being removed to St Peters and Paul's Church (Ballymacward). The burial took place at The New Cemetery after Concelebrated Mass of the Resurrection. The Concelebrants included Very Rev. Fr. Sean Slattery, P.P., Ballymacward, Rev. Fr. Nicholas Murray C.C., Kilconnell, Very Rev. Fr. Christy McCormack P.P., Fohenagh, Rev. Fr. G Burns CC Athenry, Rev. Fr. Gerry Sweeney C.C., Gurteen. Fr. Slattery in the Homily of the Mass spoke of his devotion to his Faith and to Mass, his love of horses and his flutter with the bookies. He spoke of his great ability as a hurler with Ballymacward and his work in the Forestry in the 1950's and his work during the War Years of the 1940's cutting the turf with the slane. Fr. Slattery spoke of his great love and devotion for his family and especially his 14 grandchildren (two deceased). He paid tribute to his wife Annie May for the great care she had afforded him in the time he was ill. Family members participated in the Readings, Prayers of the Faithful and Offertory Gifts Procession of the Mass. The music and singing of Pauline Keane and Carmel Keane Costello enhanced a beautiful Liturgy. He is survived by his wife Annie May; sons Christy and Kevin (both Liscuib, Ballymacward); daughters - Philomena Shanaghan, Ashely Park, Nenagh, Kathleen Toulty, Athenry, Dypmna Brooks, Bath, England; sons in law, daughters in law, grandchildren, relatives, neighbours and a wide circle of friends.
