Joe Canning will play no more hurling in 2016.
The Galway talisman sustained a hamstring injury during the Tribesmen's All-Ireland SHC semi-final defeat to Tipperary at Croke Park and had to leave the fray at half time.
He underwent surgery to repair the damage and will miss Portumna's involvement in the latter stages of the 2016 Galway SHC, with older brother Ollie confirming that he'll remain sidelined "for a good few months".
