Galway SHC ready for take-off

One of the most keenly-contested county senior hurling championships gets underway next weekend.

The Galway SHC has produced several All-Ireland club champions down the years and the first shots in the race for the Tom Callanan Cup will fired next Saturday evening when Padraig Pearses take on Ardrahan and holders Sarsfields and St. Thomas' face off in a Kenny Park double-header. Also on Saturday evening, Cappataggle face Liam Mellows in Gort.

On Sunday, Portumna meet Craughwell in Loughrea, followed by another double-header in Athenry involving Loughrea and Turloughmore and Castlegar and Gort.
Among the first round ties in the senior 'B' championship are Tommy Larkins v Beagh, Kilnadeema/Leitrim v Clarinbridge, Abbeyknockmoy v Moycullen, Mullagh v Athenry and Killimordaly v Kiltormer.
