The Galway senior hurling championship could be thrown into turmoil for the second year running this weekend.

There is a full round of group games down for decision over the coming days as the championship resumes following the county's All-Ireland SHC final defeat.

However, speculation is growing that Ardrahan may not field in their rescheduled match against Athenry in protest.

In the original fixture, Athenry did not fulfil the fixture as they decided not to line out without dual star Thomas Flynn who was due to play for the Galway footballers against Armagh in the All-Ireland SFC qualifiers just 24hrs later.

Ardrahan were then awarded the two points, but a decision was then made by the county board to reschedule the game.

It now remains to be seen if they will line out on Saturday and if they don't the championship could once again be a dragged out affair.

Ardrahan have been dealt a blow ahead of the match as county star Jonathan Glynn has headed to the States where he expected to spend the next few months working.
