Galway's ability to recover from setbacks has come from playing Kilkenny, according to Andy Smith.

The Tribesmen will meet the Cats in a repeat of the 2012 All-Ireland final (which they lost after a replay) on September 6 after bouncing back from the concession of three Seamus Callanan goals yesterday.

"You learn that from playing Kilkenny," the Galway captain is quoted as saying in the Irish Daily Star.

"Every time you get a goal against them they seem to come back and rally to get the next point and that is vital that you do that.

"We have to look at the clips again, but there were probably some soft goals there. We showed good character to come back from it and we were always within striking distance of Tipperary, which was vital. We just hung in there.

"It was a fierce battle for the 70 minutes and it was anyone's game there towards the end."

The Portumna midfielder added: "It's great that we can dig into the character and we showed it in abundance today. There is nothing won yet, there is a massive final to come ahead of us."
