Andy Smith is predicting one hell of a contest when Galway take on Tipperary in tomorrow's All-Ireland SHC semi-final.

Anthony Cunningham's team go in as 9/4 underdogs against the Munster champions at Croke Park, but the Portumna midfielder views it as a much tighter affair with the Tribesmen eager to reach their first All-Ireland final since 2012.

"It's great to be hurling again in August. It's not a luxury we are used to in Galway," said Smith.

"It's where we should be, maybe, but not the last couple of years with our performances. But this year it's great to be there and Tipperary is going to be a massive battle.

"You would hope ever year that you'd be at the top table, but that wasn't the case since I came on the panel.

"It's not good enough for a hurling county like Galway, with our underage success, but that doesn't materialise every year."
