Paul Conroy is pleased that Galway managed to conclude their national football league campaign on a winning note.

The Tribesmen defeated Kildare in Sunday's winner-takes-all Division Two relegation showdown at Tuam, a result which sets them up nicely for their Connacht SFC opener in New York on May 3rd.

"No matter what year it is or what division you are playing in, it is always important to finish the league on a high to be moving forward in a positive frame of mind. We did that this year and we now have momentum going into the championship," Conroy states in The Irish Examiner.

"The campaign had its ups and downs. It is great to finish with two wins. We had some disappointing results, but we stuck with the system of play we are trying to implement and we conceded a lot less this year. We stuck at that and are delighted to come out on top in the last two pressure games.

"There were bumps on the road but, thankfully, we finished strongly and we can work off that for the championship. There are lads to come back so that is going to drive competition for places. We are gelling under Kevin [Walsh]. With the Corofin lads back, he has everyone together."
