St Michael's to make history

October 16, 2014

History will be made in Tuam Stadium on Sunday when St Michael's contest their first-ever Galway SFC final.

Founded in 1956, the west city club had only qualified for two semi-finals prior to this year - losing to Dunmore McHales in 1962 and Tuam Stars in 1988.

Beaten at the quarter-final stage last year, they qualified for this weekend's decider against holders and red-hot favourites Corofin by virtue of a brilliant 0-9 to 0-7 semi-final replay victory over Barna last Sunday.

Despite their wins over Kilkerrin-Clonberne (1-12 to 1-9), Killererin (0-13 to 0-6) and Annaghdown (0-12 to 0-11), St Michael's are rated as 8/1 outsiders to pull off a shock victory on Sunday evening (throw-in: 4pm)
