The death has occurred in Woodlawn, The Bronx, New York, of Andrew Purcell, Formerly of Urard, Gortnahoe. He was aged 72.
In his youth, Andrew played with Gothnahoe-Glengoole hurling team at left halfback and had many cherished memories of those happy days in his home parish.
A skilled craftsman, he was a retired member of the Carpenters' Local Union 608 and enjoyed the respect and esteem of all his colleagues who recognised his many fine personal traits.
Above all he was devoted family man, a loving father to his wife, Carmen, children, grandchildren, and extended family. More than anybody else they appreciated his kindness and goodness. He will be greatly missed by them and by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Sincere sympathy is extended to his wife, Carmen (nee O'Neill); his daughters, Nuala, Margaret (Benny), Andrea (Frank), Noeleen, and the late Catherine Andrea; Grandchildren, Andrew and Brielle; his sisters, Mary Sutherland, Lily Lee, and Kaye Eckel in England, and Bridget Stack in NY.
He was predeceased by parents William and Catherine (nee Phelan), sisters Margaret Moroney and Bridie, along with brothers Phil and Mike.
After mass of Christian Buroal at St. Barnabas RC Church, Bronx, NY on 10 August, he was interred at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthrone, NY. A luncheon followed at Rory Dolan's Bar & Restaurant in Yonkers, NY. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam.
