Saturday week’s Connacht senior football championship semi-final between Sligo and Galway will be stages at Markievicz Park (3.30pm).
The two counties contested last year’s Connacht decider at MacHale Park, Castlebar, where Galway recorded a 2-20 to 0-12 victory, and prior to that had been due to square off in the 2020 provincial semi-final at Pearse Stadium before Sligo conceded the game due to a Covid outbreak in their squad.
Many felt that, as a result of that game not going ahead, that next Connacht semi-final meeting between the sides would be staged in Salthill but it has since been confirmed by the Connacht Council that Markievicz Park will host the game in eight days’ time.
The second semi-final in the western province takes place the following day, Sunday, April 21st, between Roscommon and Mayo at Dr Hyde Park (4pm).
