All Star forward Ian Burke had his mother to thank for being able to play in yesterday's Connacht club SFC final.

Burke recovered from a bout of the flu as well as damaged ribs to come off the bench and score a crucial goal as Corofin completed a three-in-a-row of provincial title successes at Ballintubber's expense.

"My ribs are kind of fine, but I have a bit of flu and I was touch and go this morning about whether or not I'd even come," he revealed to TG4.

"But then mam gave me something and I was fine. The ribs weren't 100 per cent, I hadn't done a whole pile of training.

"So it wasn't fair on the lads who were starting. But days like today are why you play with the club, it's mighty to do the three-in-a-row in Connacht. We just love playing football."
