The aim of hosting a number of high profile music concerts at Pearse Stadium is set to be discussed by Galway GAA chiefs.

It has been revealed that the two Ed Sheeran gigs held at the Salthill venue in May saw the Galway County Board make just €76,000.

The figure was announced to delegates at the latest county board meeting and despite both nights being sold out, the profit made surprised many.

Galway officials are believed to be very disappointed by the return from the concerts and are set to review their stance of hosting such concerts there.

Galway GAA treasurer Mike Burke did not rule out hosting concerts in the future, but he stressed to the Connacht Tribune that they need a better deal before considering hosting another event like that.

“There is a huge effort involved and there is also a risk factor in terms of the pitch and the weather conditions. These are major revenue generating events for the promoters and the acts involved - it’s my job, and the job of all involved with GAA in Galway - to make sure that we get a fair slice of the cake in the future.”
