Galway minor manager Donal O'Fátharta is not surprised to be facing Kerry in Sunday's All-Ireland MFC final at Croke Park.

The Tribesmen looked to be dead and buried earlier on in the campaign when Clare led by seven points at one stage before Galway came storming back.

Against Meath the last day, they trailed by five points early in the second half, but turned that game on its head to run out comfortable winners.

Now, they face a Kerry side that are chasing a coveted five-in-a-row at this level and O'Fátharta believes that to be the best, you have to beat the best.

"The best teams win, they usually get up there. You'll have your Leicester Citys every now and then, and your 'once in a blue moons' in every sport," O'Fátharta states in the Connacht Tribune.

"The best teams usually come to the fore and at minor level this year Kerry and Meath were the top teams. Dublin as well, and Cork. They were the four teams from the development squads up. Kerry came through at the expense of Dublin."

He added: "Kerry are very similar to Meath - physically strong, play a similar type of football. So it'll probably be an open game on Sunday and it'll be up to us to keep it tight when we need to and take our chances. If we can do that we're in with a chance; if we don't, we're not going to keep Kerry at bay."
