Ordering GAA tops from outside Ireland

(Oldest Posts First)

Just ordered the new Wexford top from O'Neill's. Not that it particularly bothers me, but the first thing I was asked on their website was my location and because I don't live in Ireland, the top will only have two stripes on the shoulders rather than the usual three. Can anyone shed some light on why that would be the case?

Could be a possible copyright/design conflict with Adidas outside Ireland ? The three stripes might make it look like an Adidas jersey but maybe O'Neill's have some arrangement in Ireland with Adidas?

Same thing happened to my brother in Australia, he cancelled it, he got me to buy the 3 striped jersey and send it down to him by post, its because of addidas, they 3 stripes is copyrighted outside of ireland, they tried copyrighting it in Ireland when they brought o neills to court, but judge favoured o neills argument so the 3 stripes arent trademarked here

Sadly, that all makes perfect sense. Ah well, it's just arrived and I like it. I wish there was amber on it because I'm not keen on breaking tradition too much with home jerseys (don't care about change strips, make it pink with turquoise polka dots for all I care). That said, it reminds me of some of the "rave" inspired tops (soccer in particular) from the late 80s and early 90s and I grew up with all of that so I'm happy enough.

It's strange how a jersey makes me form a wrong opinion on someone. I could be in Tesco looking for directions to the squeezy lemon and I see a fella stacking shelves wearing what looks like a Real Madrid top. As I'm approaching him to ask for directions I assume this is a young lad with no idea of football wearing a Real top cos he's a sheep wanting to be cool. But then I start to smile when I see it's a Kildare GAA jersey and he has to be sound. Could still be a cool sheep!

I understand that perfectly well. I feel the same way about clones who wander around in EPL tops who've never even visited "their" clubs stadium.

E.g, after Sutton knocked Leeds out of the cup me and my cousins went down the local to celebrate. At the time, Man U v Wigan was on TV and to see grown men bouncing up and down because the Mancs had scored a second goal at home to Wigan was absolutely ridiculous. I just shook my head and laughed at them as I walked past. Shower of feckin muppets.

To be honest the novelty of the three stripes has worn off for me I like out foreign I'll only buy a mayo jersey when I'm home. You look at London with the two stripes why they bother with one of those designs and not chose one with is beyond me it's a bit like Johan cruyff and the rest of the Dutch team when he was playing he always only had two stripes on his jersey and the rest of the team had three because he had a sponsorship deal with puma I think.
