Well done to both sides (The cilles and Westport) on an unbelievable game of football. I wanted Cilles to win, But it wasn't to be, they can be very proud of themselves, one and all. As for Westport, some unreal performances. How good was Oisin McLoughlin and Colm Moran. Shane Scott the midfielder too. immense. I'm made up that Lee Keegan has finally been on the right margain of a 1 point game too. Great footballer in fairness. On a side note Graham Reilly took Lee Keegan for a tour of croke park, now perhaps the uneducated will stop with the rubbish of Graham not turning up on big days, he certainly showed up today and gave the poty a torrid time. Well done Westport, a great achievement and a much needed boost for the county gaa scene as a whole. They also have a few very promising young pacy forwards who will have come to the attention of the county u-21 selectors on the basis of that performance. Their first goal in particular was a peach. Hard luck to St. Colmcilles, who really dug in and made it interesting when it seemed that they were going to get routed in the second quarter. As an aside though, I'd love to know what it is in the Mayo DNA that renders no lead comfortable. It would have been a travesty if Westport had managed to lose that game, but lose it they nearly did. Also, what was the keeper doing for the incident leading to the penalty? Surely it would have been better just to catch the ball and drive out with it? These are minor quibbles on a great day for the Port, two national titles in the football codes is not bad going at all for a town of 5k. It was a wonderful match. Just showed the pride in the parish teams. Westport probably just about deserved it. But St. Colmcilles did our county proud. After a slow start, they showed the resilience that was once (and hopefully again) associated with Meath football. They never gave up and nearly pulled it off. Yeah I think that was a rush of blood to the head, fair play to the ref he was blocked from seeing the trip but listened to umpire who informed him, I think Westport were surprised by the pace with f cilles, a guy beside me couldn't believe how fast Graham Reilly was for a big man, he said Keegan wouldn't have expected that turn of pace from him. Congrats to Westport on a deserved win but very hard luck to St. Colmcilles for never giving up. They did themselves and the club proud with their successes this last year or so and will be remembered as heroes forever within the parish for their achievements. On a side note, if I was a Westport supporter and had of lost that game, I would be raging with their free taker and the goalie for that trip that lead to the penalty. Don't get wrong any one can kick a ball wide but it was his technique that really had me scratching my head. Kicking the ball as high as possible thus losing control and accuracy instead of stroking the ball over correctly and he missed at least 3/4 score able frees early in the second half that should have killed us off. Sorry under the rules he was perfectly correct to issue penalty, the cilles player was taken down in square before ball went out, therefore been deliberately tripped while trying to retrieve ball, it was stupidity on behalf of goalie (don't want to be hard on the lad we all do stupid things) but it was clearly a black card and penalty royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 20/02/2017 13:27:42 1958664 Link
