The road to division.

Padraic Duffys contempt & dismissal of the CPA was disgraceful & in total contrast to the way the GAA, Duffy & O Fearghail treat the GPA, in fact these two have set the foundation stone for pay for play by giving the GPA a percentage of all commercial GAA revenue. In fact since the launch of the CPA the reaction to them from both the GAA & GPA has been pathetic & one of contempt. His refusal to even engage with them or grant more time is poor but his belittling attitude only sums up Croke Parks contempt & disregard for clubs & club players who have been treated disgracefully for years. It is now inevitable that the Association will in time split in two, today is just another stepping stone in that direction. Croke Parks main objectives revolve around TV deals & the Inter County game, 2% of the Associations membership devouring everything. Time for clubs to set up their own county boards & provincial boards that focus on them solely. Let the registration & affiliation & club c'ship sponsorship go into the new organisation.

I doubt it, the GAA are reliant on players thus they carry the power, granted inter county players have a big spoke to the GAA presently, but that wasn't always the case and The GPA went through a similar role in establishing themselves, county lads are also club men and won't go against their mates in any escalating matters. I think eventually the GPA and CPA will be emalgamated, maybe with two sep relate arms over the one umbrella.

I think there will come a point where county boards will become more milatent as well when more money comes into the game,

What refusal to engage with them? I thought the CPA had thanked Duffy for meeting with them numerous times and recognising the role they have to play?

The CPA are only a few weeks old, it took the GPA years to get any acknowledgement off the GAA, never mind cooperation. I'm not sure why the CPA immediately jumped to trying to dictate to the GAA what to do. A slower approach would probably produce more results for the CPA, especially since they can't possibly claim to have a mandate or any agreed direction from its members in these early days.

How long are club players expected to get s**t upon. They are being too nice IMO. What they should do is simply demand that the AI gets played on the August Bank Holiday weekend - no, ifs, buts and no negotiation. The GAA is a players association. They need to take back the power. Every intercounty player that has been interviewed agrees with the AI final on August bank holiday weekend so there should be no discussion. Padraic Duffy AI proposals are beyond stupidity. They don't deserve time of day.

I agree with moc.d , I was surprised and disgusted with what Padraig Duffy came out with yesterday. It was like back to the days of the GPA but there is a distinct difference Padraig, the cpa are all the gaa excluding the 1-3% of the gpa and the paid admins/expenses per meeting officials.

Then you have Martin Breheny spinning for him and on about clubs in co boards. Well as someone who tried to shake up issues in our county board and was removed by a text "no longer requiring your services" by same co bd exec, the cpa is representing the players and grassroots admins in my opinion.

Our club had a motion last year that went all the way to Ard Comhairle regarding insurance and then was shelved despite it being a huge cost saver for the GAA insurance scheme. Read this morning about insurance costs gone too high and clubs (like car owners in real life) taking the brunt.

There is certainly a paid administrator/expenses grabbing/gpa v the real club volunteer/club fundraiser/club player, however it is at a dangerous point with clubs not able to fund themselves in cases nevermind funding the co boards/co teams/centre for excellence

6m to the GPA and is it 6m to the players from Gov, that is working out at about 5k taken from the clubs each!

I don't know how the CPA initiative will work out but there has to be a worry that we are reaching a situation where we will see the club players pitted against the county players which would be disastrous for the GAA as a whole. I think it is unhelpful to 'slap down' players for stating their objections to proposals for change by Mr. Duffy and his supporters.
