Nine players leave Derry panel

(Oldest Posts First)

When I thought Derry GAA was just getting a step forward nine players leave and a good few of them are the main men . But to be hundred percent honest I wouldn't blame them there's no joy in it anymore its all tactics now . Not playing a game of football . I have marked a couple of them in club and you think oh he plays county but it's no longer a threat in Derry anymore . Now don't get me wrong Barton is a goodish manager , but I reckon if we had a outsider as a manager this wouldn't be happening and it would be more fair

Hugely disappointing for Derry. Can't confess to know the circumstances and the timing seems fairly deliberate but this will go one of two ways, hopefully the more positive route - something similar happened Tyrone a few years ago and seemed to make the group tighter.

It's shocking to see so many of them leave, I think they lack belief that the team is going anywhere and thus are not willing to commit.

I'm not sure whether there is an outside manager who could work magic with Derry, who could come with proper plan and get the key players to commit. Our problem right now is establishing who our key players actually are, and building upon that.

This whole thing is a mess.

The three Ulster teams that should be doing far better than they are Derry, Down & Armagh continue to have problems off the field and nothing going to change until this is addressed.

What a mess. Derry have some fantastic players and I genuinely feel they should be a top 6 side and challenging the big boys.

It surely will be difficult for Barton to continue now.

A lot is made of how big club football is in Derry. There were twice as many at the Tyrone and Donegal finals as there was at the Derry final yesterday.I thought this was interesting.

Who are the 9 who have left as a matter on interest? I would have thought that another crack at Tyrone at home would have been a motivating factor after the limp display against the same opposition last year? Players from yesteryear must be shaking their heads in disbelief. Derry Tyrone matches used to be full blooded thunderous affairs. The spark is gone, in Derry at least anyway.

It's quite worrying to hear this

Also disappointing for Derry GAA

Is the demand placed on players now going to result in more cases such as this right across the country?

Derry will have players that will take their place but it's disappointing to hear that they'll be losing some of their best players

Worrying stuff
