I'm seeing lots of reports on RTE Balls and HS making people feel sorry for Roscommons 6 day turnaround. DoireCityFC (Derry) - Posts: 1580 - 22/07/2016 22:01:21 1888372 Link 4 |
Roscommon played in a drawn provincial final. It's the nature of a replay that the losers qualifier might fall on the following week. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 7873 - 22/07/2016 23:31:31 1888388 Link 2 |
Agree. But you don't hear any mention during the league. A game a week for 5 or 6 weeks wouldn't wreck an over 40s team DoireCityFC (Derry) - Posts: 1580 - 23/07/2016 00:07:41 1888391 Link 1 |
Yeah the negativity of the 6 day turnaround is more about getting players re-focused, especially after such an emotional loss as a Provincial Final. GaryMc82 (Derry) - Posts: 3017 - 23/07/2016 01:42:12 1888400 Link 0 |
I don't feel a bit sorry for their predicament. They lost their provincial final at least they get a second chance. Won't see Tyrone Dublin Kerry or Galway get a second chance. waynoI (Dublin) - Posts: 13650 - 23/07/2016 07:01:12 1888411 Link 1 |
To be honest, you are either good enough or not good enough. If you have long term aspirations, a 6 day turn around could refocus you very well if you won. If you lose it, you would be put out of your misery for the rest of the season. The volume of games played up to a certain date is a big factor in either losing honourably or getting hammered. I think had donegal had an extra week between the Galway game rather than just the one when we were well beaten by mayo last year is a case. As is monaghan who went down 2 years ago to the dubs by nearly 20 points. This just wouldnt have happened if they had not played so many matches. (it was their 6th of the season). It definitely doesnt look good for the GAA either when we have scores like this in croke park or anywhere else for that mater. There are pros and cons to the back door, I think winning your province is a pre requisite now for all ireland glory. Donegalman (None) - Posts: 3830 - 23/07/2016 09:56:24 1888429 Link 0 |
Never see soccer / Rugby players complain when they sometimes have to play 3 games in 7-8 sundays especially soccer players. Yet we are told GAA players are fitter then soccer players etc. Shouldnt be an issue 222 (UK) - Posts: 695 - 23/07/2016 14:12:14 1888515 Link 0 |
Club players are forced to play championship in ridiculously short time periods to accommodate County players. My club is played 2 games in three days (junior level) Of course we complain about but nobody listens. bennybunny (Cork) - Posts: 3917 - 23/07/2016 14:23:09 1888519 Link 0 |
The problem is Roscommon are off the back of losing a provincial final.Mentally 6 days is a bit unfair and that has been proven the case over the last few years.
