A and B draw?

(Oldest Posts First)

I understand that this was brought i to try and give clubs a chance to get some games in but did that actually work?

Also for the 1/4 finals I think it should be open draw.

Another consideration might be to give the losing provincial finalists the option of home advantage in round 4 qualifiers. The odds are stacked against them enough

Barring a replay, the runners-up are given two weeks preparation time ahead of Round 4. The A and B side help with this.

Either u have a week turn around and a 2 week break for the quarters if you win, or a 2 week break followed by a 6 or 7 day gap before quarters (the way it used to be i think). not much of a difference to be honest, it is difficult either way for provincial runners-up. But sh1t happens if you go in the back door.

My biggest problem with this is that it only leaves 6/7 days for the winner of these games to prepare for an All Ireland Quarter final. Which is almost impossible as the first couple of days are given to recovery.. Meaning in reality they only have 3-5 days to come up with a gameplan. What would you rather take - One week preparation for a round 4 game and 2 weeks preparation for an All Ireland Quarter Final or the other way around.. As it stands now? Also think it should be an open draw if possible for the quarter finals.

It's difficult to find the perfect balance I suppose as there are only certain weekends they can play when you take in the hurling quarters/semi finals as well.

But in my view, no inter county team should be playing 2 weeks in a row at any stage in the year, barring a replay.

You are quite entitled to your opinion. Over the years the general concensus was that a week was not enough to recover from a provincial final defeat. There should be a carrot for getting to the final and not fear of a quick qualifier turnaround.

It's better to have a week after a qualifier win than a week after a provincial final loss.

Tyrone have shown the way for qualifiers to make the semi-finals.

In the old sytem anyways, qualifier round 4 was still only a week before the quarter-finals. The losers of the second two provincial finals only had a week to prepare for Q4 and a week after that for a quarter-final.

The current approach is best in that respect.

If there was an extra week between round 4 and the quarter-finals, the provincial winners will be lying idle far too long. Tyrone have been the only qualifiers in the semi-finals since the 2010 wipeout of provincial winners in the quarter-finals. No defeated qualifier county has been complaining including my own county.
