The way football is played

(Oldest Posts First)

Just read this on GAA.ie, now it's about Dublin but it is also about defensive football.

Interesting read.

Fairly vacuous article to be honest.

Also it beggars belief that some GAA 'journalists' are for some reason still trying to maintain that Dublin aren't now playing a defensive system. Have they not seen any matches since 2014?

Very good read and would agree with most of it. Jim Gavin's first focus was attack and Dublin went onto win the All Ireland in a very stylish manner in 2013, the Kerry game being the standout match. He had to reassess his way of thinking after 2014 as the Donegal game proofed they were too open at the back and as it says it the article they now have the perfect balance between defence and attack. In saying that anytime I think of that semi final in 2014 I always say the first 20 mins of that game was the best display of attacking football I have ever seen live. Dublin played sesational football and I honestly believe if they had of scored a goal during that period it would of been hard to see a way back for Donegal.

Yea dublin in2014 was an all out attacking machine..i agree after donegals ambush in 2014 dublin definatly had to tighten up a tad in defence..but they definatly dont set up with a blanket defence as some northern lads say on here often enough.we still go out with an attacking philosophy and destroy teams within 30 mins..to me this dublin team is still the most exciting team to watch in the land and will be for some time yet..because o sullivan is used as a sweeper northern lads automatically say dublin even plays a blanket..rubbish..we always go out to outscore not contain teams..

They are not playing a defensive system.

They know how to defend and they defend zonally but they take the game to their opponents.

Push up when they can, drop off if they can't.

Having game management skills is not the same as defensive.
