Club Rivalries Impacting the County Team

(Oldest Posts First)

Rubbish just complete nonsense .

Derry - this is the excuse always thrown out .

Hearing the same used by Galway .

It's an excuse and nothing else . Every single county has massive rivalries .

Didn't Philly McMahon and DC have a few notable bust ups? Didn't they put it together for the sake of the county team ?

Look at Tyrone - Errigal and Carricmore was like the Germans v the Russians in WW2.

In Donegal , there are various huge rivalries such as Glenn V Kilcar , Gweedore V Dungloe , Ardara V Glenties but teams just get on with it .

Look at Kerry during the Civil War . It was amazing in how they put their grievances aside for the greater good.

For me , every single county has massive rivalries .

For me it's used as an excuse .

Thoughts ?

I think you'd have to be a pretty childish individual not to be able to get over club rivalries when you pull on your county jersey.

I do think there are players out there though who are genuinely that parochial.

It's pretty daft if you ask me.

I think players start to overlook club rivalry when the County team go on a run, are successful and the players bond.

But if a County is constantly exiting early on, players will sometimes vent their frustration by pointing the finger at rivals who they feel aren't pulling their weight.
