THAT Wexford goal

(Oldest Posts First)

Clear goal.

Not given.

Despite umpires standing beside it.

How can they not see it. ?

Umpires are useless.

We've known umpires are useless for years. This won't change a thing.

Won't be anything made out of it due to the end result

Remove the all steel stanchions from goals, they are not a requirement, nets can be tied up.

This is becoming ridiculous we have had a litany of officiating failures this year really poor form. And while it had no bearing on the result it simply shouldn't happen.

It wasn't just the umpires.

It probably happens all the time but in the park yesterday it was the first time I noticed the linesman was also standing just outside the 21 for the penalty about 20 yards away. So it wasn't just the umpires, it was also the ref and linesman looking right at it.

I think that day of a referee bringing Tommy and Mick down the road for a day out a free meal to umpire a game has to stop at this stage. Yesterday was farcical but won't draw as much attention as it should because if the result.

It understandable that refs bring their own umpires for club games but surely for inter-county games surely the umpires must have some minimum qualification i.e. have proper eyesight to begin with !

Yesterday was ridiculous but the fact that it happens in football is even worse. In 99 Kerry vs Tipp in a very tight game the umpire had to actually get out of the way as the ball hammered against the stanchion beside him and came back out and still gave the goal the Kerry's player scored from the rebound.

Happened to Limerick minors too against Kerry, the ball hit the net behind the crossbar and came back out and no goal given.

It is unbelievable that umpires who are right on the spot can miss these.

This is why they do not have any stanchions in soccer....

i have long said that every umpire should have to do a test in croke park and only the best should be on the post for big games.it is fine in croke park as they have the backup of hawk eye but there was a disputed point in the cork game where the linesman said it was a point. that could have mattered so much.

a test, with hawkeye to verify their competence, pay them the same as referees, would change a lot.

That was an absolute disgrace how they missed the goal, two umpires standing in great positions and a referee, it's becoming far too common, the ref and his guys got out of jail with the result.

Perfect10 your proposal makes common sense and for that reason it won't be implemented !

GAA says it a relatively rare occurrence and they are not considering changes.Could be just the party line bull but somehow I doubt they will do anything.

The incident at the other end was bad as well where the Wexford goal keeper got away with throwing the hurl at an Offaly forward.

Pay them the same as refs - refs are not paid!!! 50c a mile for travel expenses and a vouched meal allowance for himself and umpires.

It's all about team work, and the top refs will be used to working with his team week in week out, both at county and club fixtures. Yes, there will be mistakes made. Yes, they will be pulled up on them. Might even be requested to consider giving one of his umpires a leave of absence. These guys are brought to seminars, advised how to perform their duties, and are continuously part of the referees overall assessment. And for what? A meal after the match!!! You don't have a mad rush of people giving up their time to umpire at club level, never mind nearly the entire day to travel the length of the country for do the posts at a division 4 hurling or football match.

Yes mistakes are made, some of which could have been avoidable. How many video replays does it normally take to get the TV pundits agreement on these issues? What player or manager doesn't make a mistake during the course of a game?

Theres no excusing the umpires incompetence at the weekend with that goal. Come on ffs. Pathetic that two umpires didn't see it.

From todays Irish Examiner
Wexford wrote to Croke Park last week highlighting Tipperary native Ryan was a Boherlahan- Duala club-mate of Offaly coach and selector Conor Gleeson.

They also brought to Croke Park's attention information one of Ryan's regular umpires was a close friend of Gleeson's.

Despite these concerns, the GAA informed Wexford they had provided no reason to remove Ryan from taking charge of the game.
Some mess if Offaly had won because of that goal

It is certainly one the officials should have got right but then the wexford forwards were standing very close to it as well and played on, trying to follow up the rebound, so clearly they were also fooled by it.
