Treatment of Counties

(Oldest Posts First)

Does anyone think that that certain counties are treated differently to others?. Last night the GAA made a decision to move the games on Sunday in Croker to a later time to avoid a clash with the soccer. Its a decision that I am happy without however it was a different story last Saturday when Laois and Armagh couldn't be put back 45 minutes to avoid a clash with the Belguim game. Ok Laois/Armagh mightn't be the big crowd pullers but that isn't the point. Its about treating GAA people in these counties with a bit of respect. If you were involved in a club in either county why would you bother promoting the game if the GAA is just going to treat you like a piece of dirt?!

Different branches within the association made the decision.

Leinster council was in charge of their championship and made in my opinion the sensible decision to push the games back.

The qualifiers fall under HQs remit. For whatever reason they choose a time that clashed with the Ireland game.

It'd have been interesting if Dublin had been involved what would have happened.

I'd imagine the game wouldn't have been scheduled to clash with the soccer. Who knows with the GAA though

Leinster Council decided to move the times for the games on Sunday. I presume if Laois or Armagh had requested a time change to the CCCC this would have been considered, particularly if the other county agreed to it.

They both did. The requests were denied.

Could it possibly have been a case of learning from a previous mistake?

Leinster U21 HC: fantastic Faithfuls final-bound after crushing Carlow
23 June 2016

Offaly will meet Dublin in this year's Leinster U21 hurling final - they whipped Carlow by 5-16 to 1-13 at Dr Cullen Park tonight.
Seeking their first title at this level since 2000, the winners are through to the provincail decider for the first time since 2008 and - on the evidence of tonight's powerful display against decidedly dangerous opposition - will put it up to the Dubs in Tullamore on July 6th.
Carlow's woes were compounded when Foley received a straight red card for an off-the-ball incident in the 55th minute and Nolan hammered another nail into the coffin with his second three-pointer three minutes from the end. Belmont clubman Kelly continued the avalanche of goals with the fifth major - and his second - on the stroke of full time as Offaly powered over the winning line with a devastating 2-4 salvo.
Does anyone think that that certain counties are treated differently to others?.
In a nut shell yes,for example RTE offer the so called weaker counties 60/90 seconds of coverage on the Sunday game and it's pundits seem uninterested.
The Carlow/Wicklow game in the LSFC got no more that 70 (ish) words of a report compressed into a corner, two div.4 teams on a par so to speak, next year Wicklow may/ may not reverse the out come but the report will be the same,ie, compressed.
What caught my eye was the fact that there was two reports on the Carlow/offaly u/21 semi final last night in NCP. The caption on the HS report was, -
Leinster U21 HC: fantastic Faithfuls final-bound after crushing Carlow.
Even allowing for the fact that Carlow let in 5 goals the word crushing is over stated,or I was at a different game altogether what they are really saying is welcome back Offaly to the big stage.
Now if you read the second report, it's kinder and is more balanced to both counties,it's caption is,
Offaly Progress To Meet Dublin In U-21 Decider
That's the game I was at.
