Counties as International soccer teams

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Which International soccer team correspond to our county teams.

Kerry- Brazil

Historically the top dogs, winning in style in the 70s. Still a top team but maybe lack the style of days gone by.

Dublin- Germany

Another heavyweight, went through a lean period in the late 90s and early 2000s. Have the largest playing numbers. Have gotten back to the top of the pile after some great work at underage level.

Tyrone-Spain

We're competitive for years but never won the big one. Made the breakthrough in the 2000s and added further silverware soon after, playing a pioneering style.

Down-Netherlands

Play with a swagger. Came close to going all the way in 2010. Things have gone downhill fast though since then.

Monaghan-Argentina

Spearheaded by the top attacker in the game. They've come close in recent years but ultimately haven't produced the goods on the biggest stage.

Donegal- Italy

Masters of the defending.

Mayo- England

Been a long wait since their biggest success.

Cork -Russia

Should be doing better given their size. They don't really seem to be bothered turning up these days.

I'd make a few changes.
Donegal - Rep. Ireland
Were very good in the 90's beating some of the top teams and are well known for their partying. Doing fairly well now again and getting the the bigger tournaments.

Armagh - Russia
Very cold front caused by Mc Geeny. Don't criticise or the top brass will come out in force to show strength.

Tyrone - England
Donned in red and white and have a huge hunger to get to the top table again but have failed on recent outings. The sight of Russia fans brings back bad memories and can often lead to heated exchanges.

Dublin - Spain
Winning has become boring for this team and they usually walk through qualification (Leinster Championship). Possibly get caught on the hop by the rough teams in the quarters but will more than likely swashbuckle their way to another title this year.

Fermanagh - Sweden
Have one great man up front that is the king of the county. Scores some sensational scores but is as big a character as a footballer. Even with him though they won't win anything!

Kerry - Italy
Look great on paper and have all the names but the legs are getting old and they are playing on memory. Will be caught by Spain again!

Mayo - We'll just leave it there so....Okey Doke

Meath - Yugoslavia.

Involved in a few wars down the years, But ultimately no longer exist as we know them.

Very good one Wayno

Roscommon-Belgium

Talented young team emerging at the top table. Still unproven at the latter stages.

Derry -Denmark

Won in the early 90s. Have only flattered to deceive since then.

In football terms you would have to compare Kilkenny with Scotland - the big event just carries on without them.

Nice

I was thinking New Zealand for them myself. Too busy winning at a different game to be bothered with the football.

I know it's not soccer but Antrim are like Canada. Large in size with a big population; freezing in the winter; like playing with sticks but is too far North for anyone to really care about.

Portugal - Tyrone, Kings of gamesmanship Russia - Meath, Try and intimidate you on and off the field but are a poor team. Argentina - Cork, Always have potential but are tortured by their neighbours success Dublin - Spain, The new kings of the sport Kerry - Australia, Always given an easy path to the major games Armagh - Ireland, Small area but always gives it a go.

Louth is def Russia. You can't bring their supporters anywhere. Always causing trouble inside a football ground.
Meath is def England. When they see a Russian jersey they run for their lives.

Kerry: Brazilian flair combined with German ruthlessness

Mayo: England, football is never coming home

Donegal: Italy, know how to defend and will trouble anyone but ultimately too many miles put down to go all the way

Dublin: Spain, finally made good on all that potential but ultimately it will only be a once in a generation thing

Cork: North Korea, power rests with a ruthless dictator who is content to build vanity projects while his people suffer
