100% agree with this. Serious problem is the lack of consistency in administering it, even in the same games.

Totally it is destroying the game and am a ref myself and at times I find it hard to call so time to get rid .

Padge Collins shown one for a slight trip on a Kerry player very early into the match in Killarney today, stupid decision by ref.

Then in second half another Clare defender drags down Darran O'Sullivan by grabbing his togs as he runs through and ref lets it go.

Even the referee's don't seem to have a clue about it and at this stage I don't know what constitutes a black card or not anymore

Scrap it ASAP. It hasn't worked but the GAA don't like to admit they are wrong so will probably continue. I mean how long has it been in effect? 3-4 years and still refs can't get the handle on it.....if they haven't by now they never will.
Does anyone on here believe in still believe it should be used?

Agree with this.It is farcical.Nobody knows what card is going to be whipped out, including the referees' themselves.

Dellboy,i rarely if ever slate a referee's performance because i know how difficult it is to make a lot of these 50/50 calls. No matter what you do ypur going to be upsetting half of the crowd, but this black card is total nonsense and i'm interested to hear that you,as a referee, don't fully know what card to brandish at times. It has to be done away with.Crazy stuff.

The black card should be scrapped. In today's game, Podge Collins of Clare was wrongly given a black card. A Clare player in the second half committed a clear black card offence and yet the referee didn't issue any card.

The GAA are right to punish cynical fouls but there are better options that a black card. In my own humble opinion, cynical fouls should be punished by a yellow card and a 21 yard free in front of the posts. In the event that a cynical foul denies a clear goal scoring opportunity though the offence might be outside of the large square, the attacking team should be awarded a penalty so that they retain the goal scoring opportunity.

Dell, we were having this conversation 2 years ago. Many of warned that inconsistency would be it's downfall and that's exactly what's happened. I know refereeing is not easy but the simple fact is that some officials are being directly or indirectly influenced by the occasion, and crowd reactions, and are applying it wrongly when it shouldn't be and not giving it when it should. It was always going to be open to human interpretation and frailty. Scrap it now.

Like I said I barely give black cards because the split second we have confuses it and I have seen players now throwing themselves in to tackles our diving . Refs are human but unless I see a blatant drag down , trip , body checking I will not give black , as half drags and players throwing themselves to ground is wrong .

It's all very well to talk about scrapping the black card but what are we going to replace it with?
What do we do about the dragging, blocking & abusing that the black card was introduced to deal with?
By all means get rid of the black card but we have to have a proper, effective replacement. & I have yet the hear what it is.

Am a ref as you know but this rule is to confusing . Like I stated I will not give black unless it is fully blatant but I hate the rule .

A yellow card? The black card hasn't got rid of any of that stuff. Watch any game and you will see bodychecks taking place off the ball everywhere, you will see men drag other men to the ground.

I'm all for scrapping the black card if it means clowns in the stand will give up their crazy obsession with it. Every single foul results in some ejit in the crowd saying thats a black card.

What do you replace it with? Just a yellow isn't enough. Would you be in favour of a sin bin? As simply a tick, then yellow isn't good enough at stopping cynical play

I don't agree all cynical fouls deserve a 21 yard free in front of the posts. A yellow card isn't enough. It needs to be more than a yellow. would you agree with a sin bin?

We can't go back to doing NOTHING about the pulling and dragging, no no please god not that milarcky. But it is also down to really poor referees and officials I saw a player PUNCHED in the stomach and nothing was done - bizarre. There was inconsistency in decisions applied today in Donegal game. A sin bin for a Yellow would certainly clean the game up. But I think fans want it every which way but lose, at the end of the day a poor ref is just a poor ref if you don't know how to apply the rules you shouldn't be a ref.

Only thing it has stopped is the body checks but the rest of it is still there .Like I said it is the way some refs see it and it differs all the time .it has not worked back to old system as sin bin would also be inconsistent also

End of your post is nonsense about ref been poor maybe you should take up whistle .game never changed with black card it did not clean it up end off .and I agree that blacks are giving when there not and not giving when they should be ,but that is the rule and not applied by all .does not mean refs are poor as they have split second to call things and do get it wrong as black card is nonsense
