Westmeath Jerseys

(Oldest Posts First)

Just after reading the article about the Westmeath jerseys. 1 comment stuck out. The chairman saying the players could pay a deposit at the start of the year, is he for real. Opinions please.

If a jersey or two goes missing, surely you can get replacement ones rather than binning a whole set?

Also, would squad numbers at the beginning of the year not help to eliminate the problem?

I am not to sure if he does or not. In fairness its very hard for people to support the current county board. From being tight with jerseys and fixing games at ridiculous dates, the list goes on. Only this week they fixed U21 champ during the busiest times wit lads doing college exams.

Seems to be a lot of messing in the Westmeath county board at present.

Pretty good Idea to be fair, give each player two sets of jerseys with their name and number in alphabetical order each year and that would take away that problem. There is no way that three quarters of the gaa counties can compete with the top 5 teams in regards to cash, this would take alot of costs down for them

If only you knew the whole lot. Players having no games for months and then 5 games in 3 weeks..

If the players are effectively stealing the jerseys rather than being allowed take them, then you can't blame the county board for trying to reduce that expense. The Westmeath minor hurlers of 2 years ago seemed to have an eye for gear anyway, and quit the AI MBHC because of it.

Reminds me of a poster a few years ago giving out that the stewards in Semple stopped his son from taking 5 or 6 sliotars hit into the terrace over the net in a warm up, he seemed to reckon the county loses entitlement them for some reason, even though that's 30 or 40 euro worth of sliotars!

If only Michael O'Leary had an interest in GAA. He did however pump a substantial amount of money into Mullingar Rugby who now have one of the best rugby facilities in Ireland. Hopefully his kids may get some interest in Gaa and he may then put some money into GAA in the county!! At least his jockeys wear the maroon & white :)

I know they can be expensive but replacing one or two shirts out of a kit isn't going to break the bank. Why buy a whole new set???

Seems to be a bit of a backward way about Westmeath and the whole set up in the county.

They are streets behind their neighbours Roscommon Cavan and Meath in regards set up county gear etc etc etc....

These sort of statements from county chairman only emphasis this!!

I'll say one thing for O'Leary. .

He is probably the highest contributor of income tax on this island. He has stated on a few occasions that he has no qualms about paying taxes here (unlike some of our wealthy businessmen who "live" abroad) as his kids go to school, use roads, hospitals, etc.

The GAA isn't good enough for Michael I'm afraid

It's rugby or horses
