Conal Keaney

(Oldest Posts First)

Dubs what do you make of Conal Keaney - the lad had a great career in both codes
Obviously a stalwart for the hurlers but what do you make of his football career.

I always looked at him as a major threat but I dont think he delivered on his promise as much as he should have.
I actually liked him as a player and thought he should have become as important to the footballers as B Brogan did. But he lacked something in his end product.

Agree/disagree?

Found himself in a team with limited options and at times quite poorly managed.

Agree woops. Not the most skillfull player and not a prolific scorer.I don't think he'd get near the starting team now.Great servant to Dublin GAA all the same so he owes his county nothing.

Was always a better hurler than footballer for me. His coming back to the Dublin hurling panel helped light a little spark.

Nice to see him go with an All-Ireland medal

Conal Keaney was a hurler first and then got brought into the football panel at a time when we were not at our best and was a little unlucky in timing I'd say of his peak years but when he returned to Dublin hurling things were beginning to happen and got league and Leinster medal and was great to see him ending on a high note on Paddy's day.

Good player, agree would not get near the starting Dublin 15 at present. Conal Keaney never had the potential of Bernard Brogan. B.B. is a top class footballer. C.K. won an All-Ireland club football medal on St. Patrick's day and I am glad to see him going out on a high. He had been most unfortunate to switch to hurling in 2010, missing out on Dublin's great success.

I thought he looked slightly off the pace last year with the Dub hurlers. He probably spent his peak years with the footballers which was a pity for Dublin hurling but he was a major part of the hurlers winning the Leinster & National League titles. Now that he's won an All-Ireland with his club in football I'd like to see him do something similar with the Ballyboden hurlers.

The Conal Keaney of 05/06 would walk onto any Dublin team for some reason after 06 he never hit them heights again but was a great bit of stuff and it's a sad day for me to see him retire. All the best to the great man Keaney.

Hes been sliding for a couple of years now. Dub hurlers have already moved on but will miss his physical presence and no little skill especially in the air.

Yeh very good footballer, excellent hurler. His timing was unfortunate so I'm delighted for him winning the AI Club football this year!

Wish him all the best in his retirement, remember seeing him play for the dubs and Leinster when he was only 18/19 , a class act, big loss to Dublin hurling.

Best of luck to him.

Wasted his talent a bit with the footballers for so long unfortunately but did well when he came back into the fold. Never ended up being as good a hurler as he maybe could have been if he hadn't given up for so long but was an important player nonetheless. The fact that he was able to play a big part in 2013's Leinster success is testament to how good a hurler he was.

I think it'll always be a case of what might have been with Conal.

I was delighted for him that he finally got his All-Ireland medal with Boden.

I'd wish him well.Anyone who plays 15 seasons and gives so much to their county deserves to be applauded. The best of luck to him.

I wish him well. Absolutely terrific hurler. The most gifted the dubs produced before it was cool. Huge loss.

always had great time for keaney very honest player pity he didn't join the hurlers at a younger age! thought he was the only Dublin player in 09 that wasn't a startled earwig kept going in adversity great mark of a man

Top man. Unfortunate his best form didn't coincide with the collective outfit we have today. There was a a time when he and Alan Brogan were our main threats going forward but as we know , overall the teams he played in didn't have enough to win an AI. Made a good decision concentrating on the hurling and there he put in some massive performances. Hit some incredible scores in our historic victory over the cats..

I think I'm correct in saying his first year back with hurlers was 2011.....

I had seen him aorund 08 in Dub club final and hadnt realised he played hurling and thought he was a top club player.
But then in 2011 with Tipp as All Ireland Champions he came out and beat them literally on his own. Thats the stand out memory of him but I always thought he was a real classy footballer as well.
At his best he wouldve walked onto any hurling team in the country the last 20 years
