Weekend 17 - 18/Sep - All-Ireland Final - Football
The above is an example of a timescale for the All-Ireland championships. With proper fixture planning all teams should have a game every 3 weeks.
Football: Rounds 3 and 4 of the qualifiers should be replaced with a Round of 16. The 8 provincial finalists should be drawn against 8 teams that come through from the qualifiers. Give provincial champions a home tie against the 4 lowest qualifiers based on league placing. Draw provincial runners-up against the higher 4 with a separate draw for home tie.
Hurling: The 4 provincial finalists should be drawn against 4 teams coming through the qualifiers in the quarter-finals. Give provincial champions a home tie against the 2 lowest qualifiers based on league placing. Draw provincial runners-up against the higher 2 with a separate draw for home tie.
The only part above that might be a problem for the GAA is having the All-Ireland hurling semi-finals played on one weekend and the same for the football. This years championship starts on the 15th of May. If they were to stick with All-Ireland semi-finals on separate weekends, the above would have to start 2 weeks earlier.
