Huge expectations in Galway this year who should win the All Ireland minor title. They are back training now over two months so will be fit. Who are likely to be their nearest competitors.

Huge expectiations for which title? You don't mention which sport?
Could a moderator edit title when OP clarifies which sport they are talking about

Well done Moc.dna putting pressure on them already. Back training nearly two months? Are you mad? The senior team isn't even back.

Minor football Ormondbannerman. Philip3, from previous posts I knew you would be one of the first to try to contradict me. Minor, U21 & Senior squads are all training, from experience of dealing with people within the GAA in Galway I knew this would be challenged, maybe you have a motive for challenging it. However I have gone along to see these sessions myself & I know of someone who took video footage on their phone. Last Sunday both the Seniors & U21's trained, you either don't know or are in denial for some reason.

Heard that last years team was one of the great minor teams too and look what happened with them when Tipp played them.

Ridiculous thread really at this time of the year!!

If they are training now they are screwed simple as ,
Time will tell , Dubs lads have gym programmes conditioning but no there not out night and day in the mud , couple of weeks ago footballers trial games were the 1998 boys either made the grade to minor panel or were dropped , so bit of tweaking with squad is whats happening for 2016 campaign .
Here this crop are considerably better than last years minors

Daft post considering minor football is so unpredictable.

I though minor teams couldn't start training until 1st January?

Galway teams won the last two Ted Webb cups (Connacht U-16 tournament) however they were the best of fairly average Connacht championship which was the same in minor level last year and more than likely the same next year.

For example this year was the first time in over a decade that no Connacht side reached the All Ireland semi final and that's more likely to be repeated in 2016 than Galway minors winning the All Ireland.

@moc.dna I think that its a long reach to suggest that Galway can win the All Ireland minor football title at this early stage. There's no evidence to support this. Even the best Minor club team in Galway and Connacht (Salthill/Knocknacarra) couldn't beat Ballymun Kickhams in last years Minor Club championship. (I heard they were comprehensively beaten according to a quote from a Ballymun player).

Other teams like Kerry/Tyrone/and more recently Tipp, and others have shown far more consistent performances at Minor level than Galway ever have and would more correctly be positioned as favorites.

Not sure where you heard that. They weren't even favourites to beat Mayo in their first match and many thought Sligo had a decent shot against them in the Connacht final. Unfortunately by the time they played Tipp both starting midfielders (two best players on the team to be honest) were injured (although one of them played through the pain) and their best forward went off injured after 5 minutes. May not have won anyway but it would have been a lot closer.

As for this year who knows? It's minor. It's not a lottery but it's a very difficult grade to predict.

Of the 4 remaining teams Galway are by far and away the weakest of the remaining 4. Its an average Galway team by all accounts. winning a poor Connacht championship means nothing. I fully expect Donegal to beat Galway in the semi final. Kerry are exceptional at minor grade again this year but its also a very strong Kildare team. I expect the winner of Kerry v Kildare to beat Donegal in this years Minor final.

Donegal will beat Kildare were they to meet but would make Kerry the fav's myself. Of course that is if Donegal beat Galway and as we all know its all on the day as lads can freeze etc.....there is already a detailed thread on this years championship Rayo if you want to check it out.

It's actually not an average Galway team at all. They've played 3 games and won them all fairly easily. Some excellent forwards on the team, and some very good backs too. Maybe a slight weakness at midfield but considering they are missing 4 lads through injury who would be nailed on starters they can be very proud of their efforts so far.

Galway beat very poor opposition in those 3 games in all fairness. Galway only had 4 different scorers against a pathetic Laois outfit by all accounts. Compare that to Donegal who had 8 or 9 different scorers against a good Cork side. There is no doubt Galway havent played any team near as good as Donegal in the championship yet, whereas donegal have played 3 very good teams. If your comparing Galway to Roscommon and Laois then yes your right this isnt an Average Galway team...........however, Im comparing this Galway team to Donegal, Kildare and Kerry. Thats the difference.
