RTE's All Ireland Day

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

A very enjoyable program about the build up to and the actual Final itself, for the perspective of ground staff, bands, commentators and of course the Ref David Coldrick. It is fascinating to hear the on-pitch conversations between ref and players and for me looking at it the ref has a really difficult job - hats off to Coldrick. It is available on the RTE player and well worth a watch.

Was an interesting watch alright.Fair play to Coldrick he is too drawwr ref.
Did seem to be a lot of attention given to a few Dublin players alright but it's something refs need to be in top of and they seemed to be into agressors on both teams.Good to hear some of the Mike talk.

100% correct yourjoking. He got yellowcarded, then gouged donaghy's eye a few minutes later. He was very lucky to stay on.

One thing jumped out at me. When donaghy told him his eye had been gouged, he said 'I didn't see that ciaran' - surely with such a serious allegation and an obvious mark on his eye, he should have asked all his linesmen and umpires on the spot if they had seen it?

Was an excellent tv show and fair play to all involved as id say there was a lot of time and effort put into it, and many miles travelled.

I think i mentally blocked out how wet it was. the camera work showed how bad the playing conditions were. v high standard considering.

Did Aidan O'Mahony really think he was getting away with pulling down Kev Mc?! great tv

Obviously i wouldn't have enjoyed it as much if the dubs hadn't won.

i think all involved came across v well & good genuine gaa people

The footage is fairly conclusive on the eye gouge. It was a gouge .

The footage showed it was one of the most blantant eye gouges in any sport this year. The GAA has set a very dangerous precedent by only handing out a 1 match ban.

Ah Clondalkin, you never miss an opportunity do you?

God help you next time Dublin are knocked out of the championship...

Thousands of threads already dedicated to the eye gouge incident.

It wasn't an hour long programme dedicated to solving this riddle once and for all.

Jeez, bit of positivity wouldn't go astray.

*Spoiler alert for Damo*

The show followed about 10 intertwining AI final day stories, the game was one of these and that one incident was one small part of that.

I thought the show was great, the artane band, the rock family, the ref, the broadcasters, etc. all came across really well.

The Master he has an ear piece hooked up with his lines men and umpires they would have have said something into the ear piece if
they had seen anything so that's why he didn't consult them. In all fairness how was anyone expected to see that.

Coldrick is top class ref but the gouge needs to be forgotten about its done and dusted at this stage

What o mahony done was clever, not the foul as he knew he was getting a black card but with walking away he gave time to the kerry bench to get someone on quickly, whereas in most games you have to wait a min or so.

Great show in fairness to them

Lots of well thought out individual stories linked into the one day

Particularly enjoyed seeing AOM getting the line...

What a plank.

Frankly, the above is complete nonsense. The umpires and linesmen cant hear what donaghy said to the ref, and the umpires - who would have had the best view, don't have earpieces, as we seen in another clip where coldrick went in and spoke to them. He should have done the same with this incident. As for not seeing it, everyone seen it at the time from the camera angle, it was all over the internet within minutes, including this site. Spare us the blue-tinted routine, it is obvious he gouged his eye, it was obvious as the time and the guy should have gotten the line and a hefty ban.

Regarding o'mahoney, he showed complete disrespect to the ref with that action. It wasn't clever at all. I understand what you are saying as regards allowing his team to get set up, but there are ways of doing things. Treating the ref with such disdain should be a yellow card also, which would be a cumulative red card.
