Happy with your Management Team ?

(Oldest Posts First)

At present, the jury is out on Rory et al.

We had a difficult run through Ulster last year and injuries piled up .

I still feel however he made some strange decisions such as playing PMB when he was clearly injured.

Not enough new players were blooded last year so 2016 is a massive year for Rory.

I am aware some counties aint got a gaffer yet but those who do : are yous happy with your current manager and overall setup ?

No better man, continuity is going to be vital to bring more of this young squad through, need promotion next year and an ulster final, Then 2017 could be a big year!

The jury is still very much out on Cunningham. His strength is supposed to be as a coach so maybe we'll only see the benefits of that this year.

Can't really complain about Gavin. He seems to be doing alright so far.

Yep very happy with Jim Gavin and his management team, hard lessons were learned form the defeat to Donegal in 2014
made up for it bigtime in 2015,winning all competitions entered.

The answer from a Dublin point of view would have to be a resounding yes. As expected when we lost last year there was the usual finger pointing that comes with a loss and was predictable of course. EF was a genius last year and this year was seen to be very fallible. Only one team wins every year so its not like these guys become bad managers overnight. For the top teams only September glory will suffice and leads to managers and back room teams being questioned regularly.
Jim Gavin and Co will know all to well that you are only as good as your last result and very few management teams are given a relatively handy ride.

Yes. Rory is the best man for the job. He just needs back up in the form of a man that has respect from all clubs and players.

This is why I am happy with the exit from our management team this year too.

I'd love to see Martin McElkennon link up with us. We missed out on him last year.

Just look at our results . Colin Kelly took over at a very difficult time when the playing panel was very severely depleted . However we are better than our seasons results would suggest .

Big questions to be answered in the nedia from 2014 and the Donegal game etc but Jim and co made the tweeks and changes needed so very very happy with it obviously.

Nothing wrong with the people in charge. The process to hire those people is an issue. Many people don't bother applying. It's a pity. At this stage though you just get tired of it. We have had strikes etc. Just have to accept ones lot now.

delighted to hear there is a probability of a new county board on its way for 2016. Even if they elected Forrest Gump it would be an improvement so all nominations welcome.

FOOTBALL: Nobody will mess with Seamie Fitz this year, his right hand men are former boxing champioin Brian Magee and G Adams Jr so hopefully the casual approach is out the window.

HURLING: chief of fire department north Antrim region would be a good start I suppose...

I think you got the wrong Fitzy there saffron, Seamy dabbles more in the property market than on the pitch/sideline!

Hurling wise interesting to see Justin McCarthy mentioned alongside PJ O'Mullan in today's irish news.

Cunningham:

Needs to be better, and it was evident that he got it wrong in 2015 - Dublin have a very difficult draw once again in 2016 - A loss to Wexford would be the beginning of the end - he's currently trying to build a new backroom team. He has it all to do and is def under pressure

Gavin

Well the DCB very smartly got him on board early to extend his tenure as manager even before Dublin won the All Ireland - a very shrewd move by the CB. Instilled confidence and took the pressure off, I'd hope that Gavin could build a legacy as Dublin manager - would like to see him remain up to the end of this decade. Nothing better than learning from your mistakes and it is to Gavin's ultimate credit that he took the lessons on board. His man management on the likes of Fenton this year was top stuff, got many calls right and won all that was put in front of him.

Football: Big Kevin hadn't a great first year in charge. Got off to a flyer in the league but tailed off badly in the end.Can only see us getting promoted this year if corofin get knonked out of club champo early. On the championship we recorded easy wins over NY and Leitrim. However, when it came to mayo.we were way to over hyped and therefore gave away too many easy frees which O'Conner would score with his eyes closed. Also he should have called Lundy and Comer aside and told them to play football rather than try and knock lumps out of mayos backs. In the qualifiers we only beat armagh and Derry due to a mixture of kind refereeing decisions and also there poor execution of the blanket defence. When it came to Donegal we were unable to cope with their blanket defence and strong running game. So for 2016,I would like us to target promotion and blood as many young quality players as possibly. Three lads I would like to see given a shot are Garry Kelly, Michael Daly and Eoin Finnerty. Remember these names!

Hurling: Nothing much to be said here except for the hurling board to try and find a solution to the mess that galway hurling finds itself in.

Terry Hyland will probably be called Sir Saint Terry Hyland if he strings a few wins together. From a senior hurling point of view we are unbeaten for a few years now!

Football - Yes i am happy as we seem to finally have a plan in place to bring young guys on. Powers style of football is a great when it is working. But this year is his real test and he will rightly be judged a lot more sterner then his first year. Getting out of Division four is a most. Then hopefully reaching the Leinster semis.

Hurling - Disaster of a year last year. Might be in the minority but think Dunne deserves a chance to rectify it this year (was totally against him late last year). We have a decent bunch of hurlers but need to start challenging the top tier teams. If we fail to do this i think ultimately Dunne's time in charge will not be seen favourably by some supporters.
