I'd question anyone using the phrase 'going to war' about a game of football when there are some savage conflicts going on all over the world.

Good for you

It's not about me though - it's about a player that is very much in the public eye and who youngsters look up to. I think he can do a lot more to clean up his image so it matches his obvious football talent.

He's no angel and he's got his ban

But I think he's getting a lot of unfair judgment too...

This whole non head butt thing for one...

Listen he got his ban and he deserved it but apart from that incident...

He's completely in the clear and the media / GAA community are greatly exaggerated the whole Philly bad guy thing

Very much self serving from some quarters

Jimbo - Fill us in - what has he been doing for the kids in Ballymun? I haven't heard anything about the work he's doing - would be good to see the other side as he hass done a few things on the pitch this year which definitely set a bad example for kids..

'When State funding ran out this year, he decided to raise money from private sources and will help host a major fundraiser for the John Caffrey scholarship next month. "The aim is to give opportunities to people who are struggling and to make people feel comfortable in an academic situation," McMahon says.'

Fair play to Donaghy.

Now that he has said this, it should clear McMahon and that's that.

Fair play to Donaghy for his honesty.

I don't know what world some of you live in, seriously.

Firstly, the title of the article is completely misleading. Donaghy did not 'exonerate' McMahon. What he said was "I don't think he (McMahon) meant it." And then by way of mitigation added; "He's the only one who knows."

I get why intent is an important thing but at the end of the day, intent or not, he has control of where his hands go and his fingers were far too near the eye area in this situation in the context of where the ball was. If he wants to 'play on the edge' by doing that then he should face the consequences.

Even if Donaghy assured us that there was no intent (which he didn't) it means absolutely nothing. We can all see with our own eyes what happened.

if Andy Murray can win a sports 'personality' award then Philly could be up for Nobel Peace Prize tbh
